More than 25,000 visitors are expected to pass through the gates of the Albion Sports Complex between later today and Monday for the tenth Berbice Expo.
Central Corentyne Chamber of Commerce official and Expo Organ-iser Taijpaul Adjodhea told Stabroek Business in a telephone interview that at least 150 exhibitors are expected to place their products and services on display over the four-day period.
Adjodhea said President Donald Ramotar is expected to travel to Berbice to deliver the feature address to mark the opening of the event.
He told Stabroek Business that he expected exhibitor representation at the event would span the entire Berbice as well as business houses from Georgetown and other areas of the country. In the main, the exhibition is expected to showcase the agricultural and manufacturing sectors in Berbice. According to the chamber official, several George-town business houses including Banks DIH Ltd, Gafoor & Sons, the Beharry Group of Companies, the Guyana Marketing Corporation, the Guyana Telephone and Telegraph Company and Digicel are expected to have booths at the event. An estimated $12 million was expended to pull off the event.
Asked about overseas representation, the organiser told Stabroek Business that while companies from Suriname had participated in previous years and had been invited to this year’s event, local organisers had not had a response from Paramaribo this time around.
He said it had been hoped that Suriname would be represented at the event since several Surinamese businesses had already been set up in Berbice. He suggested that in the future, organisers would deal directly with the Surinamese entities including the Chamber of Commerce.
