Donut Prince enjoyed the sweet taste of victory on Sunday, galloping to the top honours in the C and lower 1200M event of the Ryan Crawford Memorial Turf Club and Sports Facilities (RCMTC&SF) and Port Mourant Turf Club (PMTC)-organized race meet at the PMTC.
Skillfully steered by veteran jockey, Yap ‘Old Boy’ Drepaul, the steed imported from Jamaica and owned by the Elcock Stables was in a class by itself as it trampled the field to easily win the first prize of $700,000.
Known for its staying power, Donut Prince challenged the front runners early, took the lead and cantered home effortlessly to pocket the first prize and the Banks DIH trophy.
Country Armagh of The Jagdeo Stables ran in second while Donut Prince’s stable mate C.P Got Even was third with Who Is on the Case placing fourth.
Silent Night of the Mohammed ‘Nankoo’ Shariff Stable ridden by Jamaican Brian Blake had a victorious day as it upset the field to win the co-feature Three year event for Guyana and West Indies Bred horses.
The Guyana-born animal trained by I Bharrat defeated all the foreign-born horses to easily win and cart off the $350,000 winners’ spoils and trophy from Mansoon, Set for Fame and Party Time.
The two-year old cavalry had their first taste on the track with the Jumbo Jet stable getting into the winners row in the 1000M event for Two year old West Indies bred horses as Today is My Day with Colin Ross on the mount making sure it was its day as it won from Unsettled, Royal Empire and Untouchable. The win was worth $300,000 and a trophy.
The two-year 1000M event for Guyana-bred horses saw I’ll Get Another trained by MC Crawford with Winston Appadu in control winning the $220,000 money and a trophy from Baby Kerry and Sunny Silence.
The G1 and lower 1300M race saw a comfortable win for Treacle trained by Fazal Habibulla with Richmond in control taking away the $300,000 winners money and trophy from Celebrating Love, Quiet Storm and War Craft.
There was a win for Gold Romance of the Saul Stable in the G3 and lower 1200M event. Trained by Manoj and ridden by Rad Drepaul it took care of business to carry away the $300,000 prize and trophy ahead of Silent Lizzy of the Elcock stable, Quiet Storm and Red Cloud.
Richmond was again in the winning enclosure as Easy to win had an easy time in winning the ‘I’ and lower 1200M race and the $200,000 prize and trophy from Party Time, Savion and Affinity.
There was a one, two victory for the Ron Velloza stable in the J and K class 1200M event with Smarty Light ridden by Rad Drepaul and Prince Bayaya both trained by Thomas George taking the top spots and trophies with Famous Pride and Magaline rounding out the money.
The top Jockey was Richmond with Habibulla the top trainer while the Elcock, Dookie and Veloza stables all performed well. They were all presented with accolades compliments of Ramesh Sunich of the Trophy Stall in Bourda Market.
The incident-free day of racing rolled off with a bang with over 75 horses taking part in the day’s activity with in excess of $6M up for grabs.
