Daniel Lopes defeated Ronald Murray in straight sets to book his quarterfinal spot in the Men’s Singles Division as action in the Guyana Bank for Trade and Industry (GBTI) Open continued at the company’s Recreational Club, Kaieteur Street, Bel-Air Park on Wednesday.
Lopes fought off the challenge from Murray to win by a 6-2, 6-3 score line. Joseph Dejonge defeated Harry Panday in their Men’s Singles match-up 6-2, 6-2 to advance to the final eight.
In the Men’s Singles encounter of the evening, Seaden David-Longe overcame Victor Demchenko in straight sets 6-4, 7-6 to progress into the quarterfinal round.
In the Men’s Over 35 doubles division, the duo of Carlos Adams and Owen Lewis defeated the team of Albert Madramootoo and Steve David-Longe.
Adams and Lewis won the first set comfortably by a 6-1 score line. However Madramootoo and David-Longe would quickly respond as they won the second set 6-4 to force a third.
With the winner of the third set being the first team to score 10 points, team Adams and Lewis would prevail in a closely fought set 10-8 to advance to the next round.
