The signatures have been affixed. The die is cast, and the 29th edition of the Guyana Fight Night Pro Am card is scheduled to box off on August 3 at the Cliff Anderson Sports Hall.
Following yesterday’s contract signing at the head office of the Guyana Boxing Board of Control (GBBC) on the Avenue of the Republic, the stage is now set for 24 rounds of fistic fury.
The professional segment of the card is scheduled to be headlined by undefeated Caribbean Boxing Federation (CABOFE) featherweight, junior welterweight and local lightweight champion, Clive ‘The Punisher’ Atwell and Barbadian Shurwyne ‘The Mauler’ Marshall.
Atwell (10(5)-0-1) will match gloves with Marshall (5 (3)-10(6)-1) in an eight-round lightweight contest.
The 25-year-old Dominica-based ‘Punisher’ will look to continue his winning ways against the seasoned 41-year-old ‘Mauler’.
“I’m taking this fight in order to stay active and build my record. It’s another stepping stone for me, I look forward to a challenge from Marshall and I also look forward to putting on a dominant boxing display,” said ‘The Punisher’ after signing his contract.
“I encourage the fans to come out and see the fight because we all know what I bring to the ring,” Atwell added.
Former world-rater and European champion, Howard ‘Battersea Bomber’ Eastman (46(37)-12(2)-0) will take on national light middleweight titlist, Mark ‘The People’s Choice’ Austin (9(1)-5(2)-1) in a 154-pound fight scheduled for eight rounds in the co-feature of the card which will also see Laured Stewart and Richard Williamson in action.
Stewart, fresh off his dominant debut victory against Anson Green earlier this month, will take on journeyman Eversley Brown in a four-round junior middleweight bout while match makers of the event have pitted Williamson against Green in a lightweight affair also scheduled for four rounds.
Names of the pugilists who will make up the amateur segment of the card will be announced subsequently.
Tickets will cost $1500 (ringside) and $1000 (stands), bell time is 20:00hrs.
