Two persons have been arrested in connection with an unmarked bag containing ten parcels of cocaine which was found on Saturday afternoon at the Cheddi Jagan International Airport, Timehri and are cooperating with investigators, Head of the Customs Anti-Narcotic Unit James Singh said yesterday.
According to Singh, one of the individuals is employed with a company contracted by the airport to provide security services while the other is employed with a baggage handling company.
The ten parcels amounted to 11 kilos of cocaine and according to Singh the bag was bound for New York. He explained that it was during a routine check that CANU investigators realized that there was false information on the bag and that it did not belong to any of the travelling passengers.
Investigations are continuing.
