A post-mortem examination (PME) conducted yesterday on the decomposing body of a baby boy found in a septic tank in Albouystown last week has failed to determine how he died.
Police yesterday said that Pathologist Dr Nehaul Singh gave the cause of death as undetermined.
The child was found at Victoria Street and Independence Boulevard last Wednesday.
Police officials told Stabroek News that a woman who was arrested in connection with the case has been released from police custody. The woman, a 40-year-old mother of eight, who admitted to ranks that the full term baby was hers was detained after she gave conflicting information about how the child ended up in the septic tank located at the side of her home. Initially she had said that when she went to use her toilet the child came down and she flushed him down. She later told investigating ranks that she had placed the child in the septic tank.
It was a dog who first alerted residents that something was wrong when he fetched one of the child’s arms into his owner’s yard. A drug addict saw and raised an alarm.
The septic tank where the child was found is overflowing.
Police officials said that without a determination of how the child died it would be hard for investigators to go any further.
