Eleven patients have benefited from free arteriovenous fistula surgeries that were done on their forearms.
According to a press release from the Doobay Medical Centre, the surgeries were done free of cost at the Georgetown Public Hospital (GPH) by Dr S Rammohan and Dr B Doobay on July 27 and 28. One superficialisation of a venous graft was also done.
Arteriovenous fistula, an abnormal connection or passageway between an artery and vein, is often surgically created for use in dialysis in people with severe kidney disease
The release also said that the Doobay Medical Centre is working to commence kidney transplants at the GPH later this year.
