Nicola Ramdyhan was crowned ladies champion after she defeated top seed and defending champion Carol Humphrey of Berbice in straight sets as the Guyana Bank for Trade and Industry (GBTI) lawn tennis Open tournament continued Sunday at the company’s Recreational Club, Kaieteur Street Bel-Air Park.
Ramdyhan clinched the title by virtue of her 7-5, 6-3 win.
In other results Mario Niamatali defeated Bishan Dalip 6-1, 6-3 in a men’s singles second round match while Leyland Leacock and Nicholas Fenty defeated Victor Demchenko and Stephen Bailey 6-0, 6-0 in a men’s doubles encounter.
The men’s doubles pair of Daniel Lopes and Gavin Lewis earned a walkover from the Jugdeo brothers Kris and Viraj, while in a men’s O35 singles encounter Berbician Godfrey Lowden eliminated Harry Panday in straight sets 6-4, 6-1.
Today’s action will see two men’s singles matches with former member of the Non-Pariel Tennis Club Joseph DeJonge set to have his game tested by the former junior champion Gavin Lewis. Also the talented young Texan Jonathan Christie will play the winner of the Anthony Downes/Seanden David-Longe match.
