Guyana’s swimmer Earlando McRae yesterday failed to advance to the next round of the men’s 50m breaststroke event in Barcelona, Spain at the 15th FINA World Swimming Championship despite a new personal best effort.
McRae, one of the top local swimmers, swam in lane 3 of heat 2 and recorded a time of 32.24 seconds after entering the event with a seed time of 33.38 seconds. His entry time was the third fastest time in his heats.
Olympian Britany Van Lange who is only 16-year old and the only female swimmer on the team, swims her first event, the women’s 100m freestyle tomorrow (Thursday) at 10:00hrs. Van Lange’s entry time for this event stands at 1:01.62 seconds; the fast time of heat 2.
Competition for the Bishop’s High School student will come from Tiara Shahril-Anwar and Sameera Albitar who have entry times of 1:04.8 seconds and 1:04.32 seconds respectively, second and third fastest times in her heat.
McRae and Niall Roberts, double-time Olympian are expected to return to long course pool inside Palau Sant Jordi, on Friday for the men’s 50m freestyle event.
