Over forty vendors of the Kitty Market met the mayor of Georgetown, Hamilton Green, chair of the Public Health and Market committee, Ranwell Jordan, other councilors and officials of the council on Tuesday to discuss the future of the facility.
A release from the M&CC said that the vendors shared their concerns about the severe state of disrepair of the market and how it was impacting their trade.
Of immediate concern was finding an alternative arrangement for the vendors to continue to ply their trade.
The vendors were told that the council was looking at three options: sale of the facility, partnership with central government and the vendors, and partnership with the private sector.
An outcome of the meeting was the view that there was urgent need for the council to meet with the Minister of Local Government and Regional Development and the mayor had a follow up meeting with vendors and officials to prepare the documents to send to the minister.
