Murder accused Kurleigh Goodluck on Wednesday said he was innocent in the death of fireman fireman Patrick Daly which occurred on September 15, 2009 at Land of Canaan.
Goodluck, 31, of Lot 144 Kuru Kuru, Soesdyke-Linden Highway, professed his innocence as he led his defence in an unsworn statement when his trial continued at the High Court.
The defence and prosecution are expected to make their closing arguments today and Justice Dawn Gregory, who is presiding over the trial, is expected to sum up the evidence on Monday before handing the case over to the jury for deliberation and a verdict.
Goodluck, who is represented by attorney Peter Hugh, told the court that he went to the scene of the crime to make peace and did not commit the act. State counsel Renita Singh is presenting the prosecution’s case.
Reports are that Daly had been chopped to death by three men, including Goodluck. Police had said that the man was in an outhouse in his yard when three male suspects, with whom he had a recent misunderstanding, confronted and threw a corrosive substance on him, then inflicted several chops about his body and fled the scene.
He died before receiving medical attention.
