(Jamaica Gleaner) Senior police investigators are now probing the fatal shooting of 49-year-old businessman Hector Wilson on Darling Street, in the vicinity of the Coronation Market, about 4:30 this morning.
Head of the Kingston Western Police Division, Senior Superintendent Ronald Anderson, says Wilson was pounced upon by a group of men close to the entrance of the market.
The men opened fire hitting Wilson multiple times. He was pronounced dead at hospital. The men escaped leaving Wilson’s licensed firearm behind. The firearm was retrieved by the police
Persons in downtown Kingston say Wilson returned fire on his attackers and it is believed that one of them might have been shot.
However, this has not been confirmed by the police.
Wilson’s shooting came less than 24 hours after a gang dispute claimed the life of 11-year-old Tashanique James.
The Clan Carthy Primary School student was one of five persons shot in Denham Town yesterday.
The other victims included a 12-year-old girl who was treated at hospital and released.
