The nation’s top cyclists are in for another hectic weekend as National Cycling Coach, Hassan Mohamed has once again organized back-to-back events.
Tomorrow, the cyclists will transform the inner circuit of the National Park into a speedway when the 10th annual Seven Seas 11-race cycle programme pedals off at 09:00hrs.
The feature race is the 35-lap Schoolboys and Invitational which will be contested by the top junior and senior riders. Other races carded for the day include the BMX age group categories, veterans, uprights and mountain bikes.
National senior road race champion, Raynauth Jeffrey took the top honours in last year’s feature event.
Karren Cornell, Pharmaceutical Specialist of Geddes Grant will distribute the prizes to the winning participants.
On Sunday, the riders will take their talents to the open road to compete in the ninth annual Regan Rodrigues Memorial 50-mile road race on the West Demerara.
The race starts at Wales, proceeds to Bushy Park, Parika then heads to the Demerara Harbour Bridge for the finish.
The veterans, uprights and female riders will turn back at the Uitvlugt ground on the upward journey and finish at the Harbour Bridge.
Race time is 08:00hrs.
National rider, Robin Persaud is the defending champion of the senior race, having won last year’s event in one hour, 52 minutes, 41 seconds.
Jeffrey won the junior category last year, but he has since graduated to the senior ranks, making way for a new champion to be crowned this year.
Talim Shaw (Veterans Open) and Naomi Singh (Female) are the defending champions of the other categories.
The first six senior finishers will receive prizes while the first three juniors, veterans, Mountain Bikers and females will pocket prizes as well.
Eight primes will also be up for grabs during the course of the race.
Sunday’s event is sponsored by Ricks & Sari Agro Industries Limited. Family members of the Rodrigues family and staff of Ricks and Sari will distribute the prizes to the respective winners.
