BASSETERRE, St Kitts, CMC – A century from Andy Gobin steered Trinidad and Tobago to an innings and 79 runs victory over the Leeward Islands in their West Indies Cricket Board (WICB) Under-19 three-day match here yesterday.
Gobin slammed 105 off 202 balls with 14 fours and one six, spanning 292 minutes, to help T&T post 318 for three declared in their first innings, replying to the Leewards’ first innings of 109 all out a day earlier, with Shaun Tuitt scoring 43 and Jovan Ali (4 for 20) and Bryan Charles (3 for 16) among the highlights of the innings. There were also unbeaten knocks from Camillo Carambocas (70) and Brian Christmas (48).
In their second turn at the crease and facing a deficit of 209, the home team was bowled out for 130, with Ali taking five wickets for 19 runs and two wickets each for Bryan Charles and Jesse Bootan.
Only Saeed Williams (24) and Avier Christian (23) put up some resistance.
In the other matches, the Windward Islands and Guyana claimed first innings points over Barbados and Jamaica respectively.
Windwards scored 245 all out in their first innings with solid knocks from Tonius Simon (59), Gidron Pope (47), Ronald Cato (35) and an unbeaten 32 from Larry Edwards. Chad Williams took three for 56 for Barbados.
Barbados, in reply, fell short by 76 runs as the Windwards added 181 in their second innings with Keone George hitting 52 and Roland Cato 26. Neil Persaud was the best Bajan bowler with five for 66.
Needing 257 to win, Barbados reached 24 for two after 15 overs when stumps were pulled.
Meantime, Guyana took first innings points in their drawn match against Jamaica. Guyana reached 7 for 2 at the close in their chase of 228 runs for victory.
Earlier, the Jamaicans scored 218 and 281 for nine declared. Marquino Mindley (90) and Leroy Lug (53) were the main contributors in their team’s first innings knock while Fabian Allen (94) and Brandon King (91) fell short of centuries in their second innings.
Guyana’s 271 all out gave them the first innings advantage with Kamesh Yadram (67) and Shimron Hetmyer (55). Christopher Powell took six for 45 for the Jamaicans.
