Approximately 95 percent of the road work for the Mocha access road has been completed.
It is expected to be finished by the end of August and will become the main access to several new housing schemes that are being developed along the corridor, in areas located behind the Guyana National Stadium.
A release from the Government Information Agency (GINA) said that this was confirmed by Project Manager, Central Housing and Planning Authority Fazal Wahab, along with Project Manager, BK International Charles Sobers who spoke with the media last Wednesday. The contract being executed by BK International has a value of $330M.
Still to be completed, Wahab said are the five drainage structures that are being constructed at strategic locations along the road to drain the water from Providence into the Mocha canal and eventually through the Mocha sluice.
GINA said that the new Mocha road is two miles long and 22 feet wide. It facilitates access into the Remigrants’ housing scheme, the Providence housing scheme and the existing Mocha-Arcadia villages. The reconstructed asphaltic road would especially benefit the Mocha residents who prior to its construction experienced difficulty in travelling in and out of that village because of the poor state of the road.
