Dobby Doman, a mechanic accused of assaulting and robbing the mother of his child, was on Wednesday cleared of the charges after the woman declined to offer any evidence against him.
The charges read at the Georgetown Magistrates’ Court alleged that on August 3, at McDoom, Doman, 34, of Lot 45 Agricola Public Road, East Bank Demerara, assaulted Kathia Sattar and stole $50,000 cash from her.
He pleaded not guilty to the common assault and simple larceny charges.
Prosecutor Vishnu Hunt objected to bail. He told Magistrate Judy Latchman that while Sattar and Doman share a child together, they are no longer a co
uple. He said Sattar was at home with a male companion when Doman went to her home, assaulted her and took her money. Hunt argued that since Doman went to Sattar’s home and committed the acts bail should not be gran
ted because it was very likely that Doman would repeat his previous actions.
Doman, who also addressed the court, stated, “Your Honour, I don’t do the gal nothing. She does always come in my way. She father ban me from going there, so I will stay away.”
Magistrate Judy Latchman was unmoved and denied bail. However, Sattar, who had been absent when the case was called, subsequently appeared at court and stated that she did not wish to offer evidence against Doman. As a result, all charges against him were dropped.
