President of the Guyana Boxing Association (GBA), Steve Ninvalle gave six amateur boxers a vote of confidence ahead of this weekend’s Invitational Youth tournament in Trinidad and Tobago when they paid him a courtesy call yesterday at his office at the Ministry of Sport.
Before winging out today to compete in the tournament, Ninvalle told the Simon Pures that he is confident of them winning their respective bouts as well as being good ambassadors for Guyana.
“I know you have the strength, the calibre, the training and the talent to be able to go out there and do good things, go out there and make Guyana proud”, Ninvalle declared.
Coach of the team, Clifton Moore echoed Ninvalle’s sentiments stating that he is confident of his charges returning with medals from the tournament.
Junior Henry of Forgotten Youth Foundation Gym (flyweight), Shaka Moore of Essequibo Boxing Gym (light bantamweight), Travis Hubbard of Harpy Eagles Gym (bantamweight), Quincy Boyce of GDF Gym (featherweight), Dwani Lampkin of FYF (lightweight) and Travis Fraser of Tiger Eye Gym (light middleweight) are the amateur boxers selected to represent Guyana. Fraser will be using the tournament as a warm up as he will also represent the nation at the South American Youth Games in Peru, in September.
The amateur boxers were chosen after specific divisions were requested by the Trinidad and Tobago Boxing Association.
The pugilists, manager, Eustace Cuffy and Moore are scheduled to return on Monday.
