Jamaica beat Barbados to claim under 19 crown

BASSETERRE, St. Kitts, CMC-Jamaica defeated Barbados by seven wickets to lift the Regional Under-19 title on the third day of their fifth and final round match here at EGSC Molineaux on Wednesday.

Barbados were in deep trouble overnight on 65 for 6, trailing Jamaica’s first innings score of 188 all out by 89 runs.
Carlos Maynard made 30 from 107 balls but was the lone fighter as the Bajans crumbled for 131.
Jamaica needed 43 runs to win the match and the championship.

Though wickets fell around him, Nicholas Walters hit an unbeaten 33 from 43 balls to lead the Jamaicans to 43 for three from 13.2 overs.
His knock was highlighted by three fours and two sixes as Jamaica secured the title and topped the table on 47.9 points.

At Warner Park, Windward Islands prevailed by 19 runs after snuffing out a courageous effort by Trinidad and Tobago tail enders to squeeze out victory.

Vikash Mohan hit 45 in a bid to repair Trinidad’s innings after they started the final day in trouble on 93 for four chasing a victory target of 245.
Brian Christmas supported him by striking 24 from 62 balls in a knock that included three fours.

However as the wickets tumbled and defeat loomed a stubborn 10th wicket stand promised to save the day.
But as Al Small who scored 23 runs from 39 balls and Jesse Bootan 21 from 35 balls brought the Trinidadians closer to their target, second innings hero Larry Edward returned to deliver the match to his team by bowling Bootan.

Edward finished with five for 86, while Preston Mc Sween and Taryck Gabriel had two each.
Trinidad and Tobago secured second position on 33.4 points while the Windwards finished fourth on the table on 27 points.
At Conaree, Guyana converted their dominance in their final round match against the Leeward Islands into a ten wicket win to earn third place with 30.7 points.

The Leewards started the final day on 67 for three, responding to Guyana’s mammoth first innings total of 344 for 8 declared in their second innings.

Ashawn Hodge (49), Saeed Williams (40), Avier Christian (38) and Tristan Hanley (36) all put in healthy knocks to ensure that the Guyanese batted a second time.

The Leewards, having trailed by 216 runs in their second innings, amassed 217 all out to set Guyana just two runs to win in their second innings.
Gudakesh Motie-Kanhai was the pick of the Guyanese bowlers in the second innings, taking 5-73.
Steven Sankar had 3-28.

It took just two deliveries for Brian Sattur to win the game for Guyana, launching Shavon Moore’s second ball for six.
