Well-known Guyanese musician and teacher Derry Etkins will be facilitating a music teachers’ workshop that is being launched by the Tina Insanally Foundation today.
A release from the foundation said that the workshop will run from August 12 to August 21 from 9am to 2pm on week days at its headquarters in the Guyenterprise Building, Irving and Lance Gibbs streets, Queenstown.
The sponsors of the workshop are the Ministry of Culture which covered the facilitator’s airfare; the Cultural Centre of the Inter-American Development Bank which provided overall funding and the Cara Lodge which will provide refreshments for the event.
Etkins, who currently teaches music at the St. George’s School in Tortola, British Virgin Islands, will seek to enhance music teachers’ ability to develop and deliver a music curriculum and work plan to children. Fourteen persons from several organisations in varied locations have been selected to attend the workshop.
A closing ceremony with presentation of certificates will be held on Wednesday August 21 at 2pm and Culture Minister Frank Anthony and the IDB Representative are expected to attend.
