Emancipation Day victors: Winners in the ACDA Emancipation Day festival after the prize-giving ceremony at ACDA headquarters. The prize for the best dressed African female went to Desiree Pestano, the prize for the best dressed African male was won by Ashford Glen while the prize for the best dressed child went to Little Ms Beyonce. This section was sponsored by Grace Kennedy. In the category of Young Gifted and Black performers sponsored by ACDA, Shawn English was named the best vocalist while Kamadiyah Yisreal was declared the best poet.
In the group awards sponsored by ACDA with gift vouchers from Fogarty’s/Laparkan Department, Mystique won the best costume for its `Hello Africa Parade’. Divine Stars carted off the prize for best creative stage performance (Theme: Mali-Dogon). Three group leaders: Coreen Tieshmaker of Vergenoegen, Karen Hamilton of Plaisance and Patsy De Nobrega were recognized for active participation.
