Twenty-five baseball coaches certified

Twenty five baseball coaches have been certified after participating in a Fundamentals of Coaching baseball course organized by USA Baseball through its partnership with the National Federation of State High School Associations.

According to a press release, the course, sponsored by Noble House Seafoods, is part of USA Baseball’s plan to emphasize on coaching education and popularizing the game both domestically and internationally.  “As baseball continues to grow both in Guyana and around the world, we are confident that the ‘Fundamentals of Coaching Baseball’ can be a tremendous resource for coaches, and by extension, their players,” said Rick Riccobono, USA Baseball Senior Director of Development.

Robin Singh, President of the Guyana Baseball League (GBL), which is the national governing body for baseball in Guyana, echoed Riccobono’s sentiment.

“The NFHS coaching education course developed by USA Baseball and sponsored locally by Noble House Seafood, is the cornerstone upon which baseball in Guyana will be built,” Singh said.

Physical Education co-coordinator for Region six, Zakir Moakan said that the development of Baseball in Guyana was a “very good initiative and a positive idea from the inception.”

He added that cricket and baseball were similar but said that cricket was given more exposure.

He also noted that due to the fact that baseball is a part of the Caribbean Examination Council’s (CXC) syllabus, it was a great way to develop the sport in Guyana.

Sponsors Noble House Seafoods Limited expressed their appreciation to the Guyana Baseball League for providing the opportunity for the youths of Guyana and urged the participants to put the knowledge gained to good use.

At the presentation ceremony held at the Coffee Bean Café’ the  graduating coaches were presented with a complete coaching bag, each containing aluminum bats, gloves, balls, safety equipment and other coaching aids to enable the spread of the game nationally.

The equipment was donated by the United States Embassy here in Guyana in collaboration with Pony Baseball Organization, Baseball Guyana’s Youth affiliate and Pitch in for Baseball, a charitable organization that works to spread America’s pastime to kids all over the world.
