A woman was yesterday placed in the prisoners’ holding cell at the Georgetown Magistrates’ Court after she falsely accused her common-law husband of threatening to chop her.
Calbert Pitman, 30, was arraigned before Magistrate Ann McLennan on a charge of threatening language. It was alleged that on August 8, at d’Urban Backlands, Pitman, after a misunderstanding with his common-law wife Beverly Emanuel, threatened to chop her.
Pitman pleaded not guilty.
Emanuel, when asked by Magistrate McLennan to explain what happened, admitted that her husband did not threaten her.
“He did not threaten to chop me, I was going to the house and I did not know what he had in his hands your worship,” she said.
“Based on what you are saying you made have a false allegation,” Magistrate McLennan then informed Emanuel, before ordering that she be placed in the holding cell at the court building until the court was adjourned for the day.
The Magistrate dismissed the case against Pitman but he was, however, placed on a bond to keep the peace for 12 months, failing which he would be jailed for four months.
