A man was fined $5,000 for assaulting his wife after an argument over a text message she read on his phone.
Keith Azore, 38, was also placed on a bond to keep the peace, failing which he would be imprisoned for four months.
The charge read against him at the Georgetown Magistrates’ Court stated that on August 10, he unlawfully assaulted his wife Christine Azore.
Prosecutor Deniro Jones stated that the couple was at home when Christine checked her husband’s phone and saw a text message that displeased her. She then confronted Keith, who got angry and an argument ensued between them.
Jones said Christine later tried sitting on Keith’s thighs, which angered him all over again and led to him pushing her off. He then slapped her to her face and started to cuff her. The matter was reported to the police and the man was arrested.
“I was not in the right place and she was being miserable. My best friend had just committed suicide and she made me leave without even getting to find out when is his funeral because she de vex and I did not cuff her, your honour,” Keith, a seaman, told the court.
When asked by the magistrate whether it was true that Keith cuffed her, Christine said he had and added that she had a talk with him about counselling, which she has been suggesting for a while and he agreed to the proposal. “I say I gon give he a chance since this is the first time we in court,” she added.
Magistrate McLennan asked Keith about his willingness to attend counselling. He said that he did indeed feel he should attend counselling because he loses his cool and gets angry too easily.
As a result, he was fined $5,000 and bonded to keep the peace.
