Junior Luther will spend the next two years in jail after he broke into a Rentokil pick-up and stole gear from inside the vehicle.
Luther, 38, of no fixed place of abode, admitted to both property damage and simple larceny when he appeared before Magistrate Ann McLennan yesterday at the Georgetown Magistrates’ Court.
Police Prosecutor Deniro Jones told the court that on August 7, at 356 East Street, Keron Ross, conducting business for his employer Rentokil, had pick-up GEE 9222 in his possession. He secured the vehicle, leaving a haversack, a flash vest, a pair of goggles and a magnifying glass, all amounting to $44,000, inside and he went into a building to conduct business for his employer.
Jones said Ross was subsequently alerted that Luther broke the vehicle’s windscreen. As a result, he went out and inspected the damage to the vehicle’s windscreen and saw Luther with the stolen articles. He raised an alarm and Luther was arrested.
When asked my Magistrate McLennan what he had to say before she sentenced him, Luther said, “Your Worship, I was hungry on that day. I lost my craft tools and was frustrated my parents died two months ago.”
Jones, however, told the court that Luther was convicted on two similar charges two years ago. As a result, Magistrate McLennan sentenced Luther to two years for simple larceny and two years for damage to property. The sentences are to run concurrently.
