Anand Ramchand notched his first win of the 2013 season when he drove his Mitsubishi Evolution to an E Class victory at Sunday’s drag race event at the South Dakota Circuit.
Ramchand, who had developed problems with his Toyota Supra, let his Evolution tear up the track in the E class category after Sandal Persaud’s Mazda RX 7 back axle was broken.
When the smoke was cleared, it was Ramchand who led the class and the event to its end.
Speaking to the media, the dragster said he was thankful for the win, noting that he had an enjoyable day at the track.
“It (the competition) was hard but I enjoyed my day and I want to thank all my mechanics.”
Meanwhile, the A class winner and defending champion, Richard Hamid did not bow down to the stiff competition in his class which attracted the most number of competitors
“The A class was pretty competitive and I had some stiff competition but all in all at the end of the day I came out on top and that’s what matters the most,” said Hamid.
Shan Seejatan took the top spot in the B class while Junior Khan roped in the C Class event and Romeo Singh made light work of the D class competition
The next event in the motor sport calendar is the national race of champions billed for September when they host their second national race of champions.
Drag racing is a competition in which specially prepared automobiles or motorcycles compete, usually two at a time, to be first to cross a set finish line. The race follows a straight course from a standing start over a measured distance.
