The development of motor sport and road safety, were the topics high on the agenda when the president of Fédération Internationale de l’Automobile (FIA) Jean Todt concluded his pit stop visit to Guyana on Friday.
“We discussed motor sport, the development of motor sport in the country, about organizing rallying in the beautiful country which needs to be opened to more tourists,” said Todt.
The FIA boss also held a breakfast meeting with acting Police Commissioner, Leroy Brummell, facilitated by the executives of the Guyana Motor Racing and Sports Club (GMR&SC).
The former Peugot Manager who now travels around the world and champions the message of road safety and safe driving, listened to some of the measures that the Guyana Police Force has put in gear to encourage safe driving.
These include the mandatory use of seat belts and the strict penalties for speeding and driving under the influence of alcohol.
Meanwhile, Todt also paid a courtesy call to President Donald Ramotar at his office on Friday.
The government’s delegation included Minister of Sport, Dr. Frank Anthony while Todt’s team included his vice president Jose Abed and members of the GMR&SC executive Wayne Vieira, Mark Vieira, Vishook Persaud and Mahendra Boodhoo.
After meeting with Ramotar and Todt in a statement encouraged safe driving and indicated that the meeting was focused mainly on that.
