A couple was placed on a bond to keep the peace for the next 12 months after each party decided to drop charges against the other.
Maria Paul, 31, of Lodge, and Taje Kumar, 41, of Mon Repos, appeared before Magistrate Ann McLennan at the Georgetown magistrates’ Court on a total of three charges.
The charges against Paul stated that one August 8, at Lodge, she unlawfully damaged a $5000 jersey belonging to Kumar and damaged the trunk of his car. She pleaded guilty to both charges.
The charge read against Kumar stated that he, on the same day, unlawfully assaulted Maria. He pleaded guilty to the charge.
Prosecutor Deniro Jones told the court the couple had a misunderstanding and a scuffle ensued, leading to Paul taking a piece of wood and hitting the trunk of Kumar’s car and damaging his shirt.
The matter was reported to the police and the couple was charged.
However, Kumar stated that he wanted the charges against Paul to be dropped. “I don’t want any story, just drop the charge,” he stated.
Paul added that they talked about what happened and apologised to each other. She also said that she realised that she got angry and did some stupid things.
As a result the charges were dismissed and the couple was placed on a bond to keep the peace for 12 months or face four months imprisonment.
