Dear Editor,
I support Frank Fyffe’s description of GHK Lall’s contribution, style of the written word and “excellent penmanship.” I certainly do not miss any of Mr Lall’s articles going back to the time when he gave us ‘The view from below.’
His syntax, sometimes prosody and occasional English prose at its best, bring back memories of a time in my school years when dictation and essays were marked with an eye for the Queen’s English.
Mr Lall’s articles and published books should be part of the study material for students of UG’s English degree programme. My favourite article from this writer is his description of “The local lunatic fringe.” It is so relevant at the present time.
Yours faithfully,
Sydney Scott
