A cook was yesterday remanded to prison after he allegedly converted money given to him to buy a cell phone to his own use.
Ronald Saunders, 43, of Lot 58 Crane Housing Scheme, appeared before Magistrate Ann McLennan at the Georgetown Magistrates’ Court charged with fraud. He pleaded not guilty.
Saunders, who works as a cook in the interior, is alleged to have told Terry Ramdatt that he could get him a BlackBerry cellphone at Bourda Market for $35,000, according to Police Prosecutor Deniro Jones.
Ramdatt then gave Saunders the money for the cellphone but he never received the phone and his money was not returned, leading him to make a report to police. Saunders was arrested and charged as a result.
Prosecutor Jones objected to bail on the grounds that Saunders works in the interior and once granted bail may not return to stand trial.
As a result, bail was denied and Saunders was remanded to prison until September 12, when the matter will be called again.
