Alpha ‘the Hammer’ United mauled Grove Hi-Tech 4-0 when action in the Slingerz/National Association for Women Football (NAWF) ‘Goal for Gold’ tournament continued on Wednesday.
Hosted at the Georgetown Football Club ground, Bourda, Grove Hi-Tech would pick the ball out of the back of their net as early as the eighth minute from an Anthony Abrams left-footed strike.
Latching onto a right-sided forward pass from winger Dwight Peters just outside the 18-yard area, Abrams would easily round the Grove custodian before placing his strike to the bottom of the goal.
Abrams would complete his double seven minutes later through a right-footed dagger from the right side of the 18-yard area after receiving a perfectly weighted Frank Crandon right-footed through pass from just outside the penalty area.
Manasseh Primo would etch his name on the scorer’s sheet in the 25th minute after being played on by a cheeky flicked pass by Abrams.
Turning provider, Abrams would split the backline with a neatly played flicked pass from outside the 18-yard area to the on-rushing Primo who finished calmly to the lower left hand corner.
With the result clearly decided in the first period, Alpha would add to their score line with Edison Gomes’s 60th minute effort.
Lurking in the 18-yard area, Gomes would strike his right-footed effort with authority right down the middle of the goal after opportunistically receiving a poorly defended Chris Camacho left-sided cross.
In an invited post-match comment, victorious coach Wayne Dover said, “I am satisfied with the performance especially since it was our first competitive game in a long time…saw a few mistakes and we will go back to the training ground to fix. Our approach is much different from previous times on how teams are playing against us.”
Grove Hi-Tech coach Herris Simon stated “We didn’t play football the way we suppose to play when you play a team like Alpha. Fitness was a problem. When you play football you have to adapt and be disciplined. You can’t be indisciplined and expect to go far. Alpha is a disciplined team that commit themselves to the sport.” In the earlier match-up, BK Western Tigers FC scraped to a 2-1 victory over Seawall FC. P
hillip Rowley and Hubert Pedro netted for the victors in the second and 81st minutes respectively. Clemente Browne was on target in a losing effort in the 87th minute.
Seawall’s Darius Garraway and Keron Boyce would be shown the marching orders in the 65th and 88th minutes respectively. Garraway was ejected for abusive language to the official while Boyce picked up his second bookable offence for illegally stopping a promising counter attack.
