President Donald Ramotar recently met with an official for the Guangdong Friendship Association in china which has expressed an interest in establishing ties with Guyana that focus on investment in the processing and manufacturing sectors, among others.
The Association, an NGO, was established in the Guangdong Province to promote understanding, friendship and cooperation between the people in that area and the rest of the world, a report from GINA said.
Against this backdrop, Director General of the Foreign Affairs Office in the Guangdong Province, Fu Lang, met with Ramotar for in-depth discussions on Thursday, during his first visit here.
The delegation, including Chinese Ambassador to Guyana Zhang Limin, ended the meeting with consensus on several cooperation prospects. These include intensifying work in the coming days to enlarge bilateral trade, exploring investment in the processing and manufacturing sectors, promoting tourism and exchanges between the province and Guyana.
According to GINA, the Association engages in the development of co-operative relations with foreign friendly organisations, institutions and public figures. It promotes exchange programmes through study and diversified activities among others.
Guangdong Province, located on the South China Sea Coast measures 178,000 sq km. A 2010 census numbered its population in excess of 104 million. The province has the fourth highest Gross Domestic Product per capita among all districts of mainland China, the release said.
