A man was yesterday re-manded to prison after he allegedly placed a gun to his common-law wife’s neck and threatened to kill her.
Leroy Hall was among two men denied bail by Magistrate Ann McLennan at the Georgetown Magistrates’ Court on charges of threatening behavior.
But Hall, 54 of 63 Gordon Street, Kitty, denied threatening Natasha Henry. Magistrate McLennan asked Henry, who was present at the hearing, to relate to the court what happened on the day in question.
“He placed a handgun to my neck and told me that he will kill me… he is always in the habit of slapping and cuffing me, Your Worship” Henry told the magistrate.
“A threat to kill is a serious threat, Sir,” Magistrate Ann McLennan said to Hall afterward before remanding him to prison. His case will be called again on September 16.
Bail was also refused to Sunil Pollard, 30, of 84 Richmond Housing Scheme, Essequibo Coast, who accused of placing a knife to the neck of his sister-in-law and threatening to kill her.
Pollard pleaded not guilty to charges of threatening behaviour and using threatening language to Jaiwanti Jailall.
Police allege that on August 15, at Duke Street, Kingston, Pollard placed a knife to the neck of Jailall, and told her that he would kill her.
Magistrate McLennan asked for the facts of the case and she was told by Police Prosecutor Deniro Jones that Pollard placed a knife to Jailall’s neck and told her he would kill her if she did not leave his mother’s house.
Prosecutor Jones objected to bail on the grounds that Pollard gave a different address to investigating ranks than the one he gave to the court. The man also works in the interior and may not return for trial once bail is granted, Jones said.
As a result, Magistrate McLennan remanded Pollard to prison until September 17, when the case will be called again.
