The Diamond Tennis Club in collaboration with the Guyana Bank for Trade and Industry (GBTI) will launch its third annual camp today from 3pm at the GBTI Diamond Tennis Courts at Diamond.
According to a press released from the GTA, the camp which runs for two weeks is open to individuals living on the East Bank of Demerara, but not limited to that area only.
Grace McCalman, Vice-President of the Guyana Tennis Association (GTA) stated in the release that … “camps like these benefit the game locally as the association seeks to encourage tennis clubs to enhance their junior training programmes.”
McCalman noted that tennis camps are growing in recognition as the association recently completed its annual P&P Insurance Brokers Junior Camp which attracted 49 players.
“There are a lot of tennis players who live along the East Bank area who would love to learn and play the game on a regular basis but would not want to venture into busy down town area, so the Diamond Tennis Club is a great area for the entire family to learn to play,” said Mc Calman.
Ricky Jamuna President of the Diamond Tennis Club said that the camp was in its third year and this time fully supported by the GBTI.
“The camp has been well received over the past two years and this year would be another successful one,” he said.
Jamuna alluded to the fact that the bank recently held a successful Open tournament with a high number of new players and spectators turning out.
The camp is scheduled to end on August 25. The sessions commence from 15:00hrs to 18:00hrs on Saturdays and Sundays only.
According to the release the camp will be split into two sessions; juniors will be accommodated from 15:00h to 16:30h and the seniors from 16:30h to 18hrs respectively.
Interested persons can contact the Camp Coordinator, Ricky Jamuna on 641-0635 for more information and registration.
