Relatives of Keith Wallerson have been receiving conflicting reports about his death and are awaiting the results of the post-mortem examination scheduled to be conducted today to determine the cause.
The body of Wallerson, 20, of Golden Grove, West Coast Berbice was pulled from the Cuyuni River around 1 pm on Saturday.
That was shortly after relatives received a call that he was missing and that a search was being conducted for him. The body is at the Lyken Funeral Parlour.
His mother, Hazel James told Stabroek News yesterday that she is still not sure how her son met his demise. He left home six months ago to work at Aranka in Region 1 with a resident of Lichfield.
A sister said when she saw the body on Sunday after it was brought to the city it was in good condition, except that there were signs that suggested that he was a victim of foul play.
This newspaper had initially reported that, Wallerson was stabbed to death at a mining camp in the interior.
However, in a release, police said they received a report around 8 am on Saturday that Wallerson was crossing the Cuyuni River in a boat, when it capsized and he was feared drowned.
The release said too that a search party that included police ranks subsequently found the body around 1 pm. According to police, the body bore no visible marks of violence.
