A fisherman was yesterday sentenced to one month in jail for threatening to kill a woman.
“Ah had liquor in my head,” Sheik Mohamed, 44, told Magistrate Fabayo Azore, when asked why he threatened Pamela Alfred.
Mohamed pleaded guilty when the threatening language charge was read against him at the Georgetown Magistrates’ Court.
Magistrate Azore heard that he committed the offence on August 19, at Lot 15 Back Street, Houston, where he threatened Alfred, who is known to him.
According to Prosecutor Ramsahoye Rambajue, Alfred was in a shop conversing with a friend, which angered Mohamed, who threatened to kill her. She subsequently made a report to the police station and Mohamed was arrested and charged.
Mohamed, who had a difficult time relating to the court because of a hearing problem, kept shaking his head and responding contrarily to questions asked.
It was later determined by Magistrate Azore that he was also intoxicated at the time he appeared in court.
When his sentence was announced, there was an outburst from Mohamed, who stated that he works very hard as a fisherman and gives all his money to Alfred. The woman, however, denied his claim.
