The Georgetown Cricket Association (GCA)/Banks DIH Malta Supreme Under-13 Cricket competition is set to finally bowl off tomorrow after it was postponed because of rain.
GCA Competitions Committee chairman, Shaun Massiah, yesterday told Stabroek Sport that the first set of matches will be contested tomorrow and will be played across grounds in Georgetown namely, Gandhi Youth Organisation Ground (GYO), Georgetown Cricket Club (GCC) and Muslim Youth Organisation Ground (MYO).
Six Georgetown clubs, the Demerara Cricket Club (DCC) ‘A’, Transport Sports Club, Georgetown Cricket Club (GCC), Malteenoes Cricket Club, Everest Cricket Club and Gandhi Youth Organisation (GYO), will square off in the 25 overs-per-side competition.
Massiah, who at the launching of the tournament had confirmed that DCC will enter an A and B team, said that the club has now opted to enter one squad with their best U13 players.
He also noted that this tournament will be used to measure and churn out new talent who will someday represent the country in the U15, U17 and U19 levels before possibly going on to be ambassadors of their country at the highest levels.
Other tournaments organised by the GCA earlier in the year including New Building Society (NBS) Inter-County U-19, which was placed on hold due to bad weather and the Brainstreet Under-15, which is currently in the semi-final stages, are likely to restart and conclude by August 31, according to Massiah. Massiah also hinted that the GCA was currently in the process of organising an Under-19 club competition this month which will feature clubs and players from the Georgetown district competing.
However, he said the GCA was urgently seeking assistance from corporate Guyana to successfully pull of this endeavor.
