ST.GEORGE’S, Grenada, CMC-Barbados and Jamaica will meet to decide the champions of the West Indies Women T20 tournament at the national stadium today.
Both teams advanced to the finals after scoring comfortable wins in semi-final matches across two venues in Grenada on Wednesday.
Jamaica defeated Guyana by five wickets at the Tanteen playing field while Barbados trounced Trinidad and Tobago by 30 runs at the national stadium.
Vanessa watts and Shanel Daley contained the Guyanese run flow after they suffered an early blow losing the normally prolific opener June Ogle for a single.
Tremayne Smartt with a top score of 35 and Shemaine Campbell with 22 attempted to stabilize the innings but Guyana were all out for 97 in 19.4 overs.
Watts picked up 2 wickets for 21 runs while Daley had figures of 2 for 9 from her four overs.
Jamaica had some scary moments on the chase but got to 99 in time losing five wickets after 19.4.
Tameka Sanford was not out on 27 and Chinelle Henry unbeaten on 20 while Guyana’s leading bowler was Plaffiana Millington who captured 2 for 9 from four overs.
At the national stadium, an even 50 from Shaquana Quintyne setup the Barbados win.
Quintyne scored her half century in 53 balls cracking two fours as the Bajans posted 115 for five in 20 overs.
Charlene Taitt was not out on 27 while Deandra Dottin was run out for 26.
Kirbyina Alexander was T and T’s best bowler with three for 19.
Trinidad and Tobago were made to struggle against the Bajan bowlers despite the dogged efforts of skipper Merissa Aguilleira to reverse her sides batting fortunes.
They stumbled to 86 for seven in 20 overs, Aguilleira top scoring with 22, Stacy Ann king 17 and Shenelle Lord not out on 16.
The damage to the Trinidad innings was done by Shaquana Quintyne 3 for 14 while Shakera Selman and Deandra Dottin picked up two wickets each.
In the playoff matches, St.Vincent and the Grenadines defeated Dominica by eight wickets while Grenada also beat St.Lucia by eight wickets.
