BASSETERRE, St Kitts, CMC- Jamaica dug themselves out of an extremely unfavourable position to beat ICC Americas by 73 runs and seal the Regional Under 19 50 over title after the seventh and final round of matches here on Tuesday.
Batting first Jamaica were in all sorts of trouble early on in their innings being reduced to 51 for 6 in 22 overs at Verchilds.
Spinner Farhan Malik led the destruction for the ICC Americas with figures of 4 FOR 24.
However Thavi Spencer and Nicholas Walters came to the rescue in a sensational stand that yielded 81 runs for the seventh wicket to help Jamaica win back the momentum. Spencer made 54 while Walters hit 33 to lift Jamaica to 159 for 8 in the 44th over before they were all out for 203 by the end of their allotted 50 overs.
In response, the ICC Americas faltered in their chase, stumbling to 130 for 9 from their 50 overs. Walters and Spencer again combined, this time to lead the destruction with the ball taking 4 for 25 and 2 for 22 respectively.
Kamau Leverock top scored with 33 while Tre Manders scored 22 for ICC Americas.
At Conaree, Guyana chalked up a comfortable three-wicket win over win-less Leeward Islands.
After winning the toss and electing to bat first, the Leewards were in early trouble losing wickets quickly.
Leewards crawled to 56 for 3 in 17 overs until Ross Powell with a courageous knock of 50 tried to lead a recovery.
Shawn Pereira ended with 3-27 while Vishoal Narayan and Romario Shepherd both had two wickets each as Leewards gave Guyana a target of 144 for victory.
The Guyanese endured an early stumble in their chase, being reduced to 61 for 4 in 19 overs. But Tagenarine Chanderpaul rallied for his team before going for 56 as the Guyanese recovered to 133 for 5 in 40 overs and eventually reaching their target.
Theron Bassue finished with 2-37, Tristan Hanley 2-25 and Jeremiah Louis took 2-28.
Jamaica finished the tournament with a handsome lead of 37.2 points while Windward Islands, who locked horns in a tight encounter with Barbados, was second on 29.4 points.
Trinidad and Tobago finished in third position on 24.9 points.
Guyana ended with 19 points, Barbados 13.7, ICC Americas 9.5 and Leewards 1.4.
