The People’s Progressive Party was saddened to learn of the passing of former Attorney General of Guyana, Doodnauth Singh SC. The party expressed condolences to his family, relatives and friends.
In a release, the PPP said that Singh will be missed as he had served with distinction and astuteness. The many portfolios he had held were extensive including Attorney General, Minister of Legal Affairs, Parliamentarian, Chairman of the Guyana Elections Commission, and as a distinguished attorney-at-law.
The party said that despite his numerous achievements, he demonstrated humility and has provided mentorship to many.
The PPP expressed gratitude for the contributions made by Singh and hoped that the family and friends would be comforted in their grief and find solace in this time of bereavement.
Chairman of the Guyana Elections Commission Dr Steve Surujbally also expressed sadness on the passing of the former Chairman of the Guyana Elections Commission who conducted the 1997 General and Regional Elections.
In a statement released, Surujbally said that apart from his affable personality, Singh will always be remembered by him for his willingness to forthrightly share information whenever he was consulted on election related matters. Surujbally expressed regret that an excellent source of information pertaining to those elections now no longer exists.
He extended deepest condolences to the family and friends of Singh on behalf of Gecom.
