The U.S. Embassy’s Humanitarian Assistance Program (HAP), in association with the Aircraft Owners Association of Guyana (AOAG), the St. Joseph Mercy Hospital, and Ministry of Health Community Officers, held a medical outreach in the Amerindian communities of Rupununi, Region 9 from July 30 to August 6, 2013. A statement from the US Embassy today said that the Ministry of Amerindian Affairs hosted the event through the Village Councils. Over 200 people were treated in the villages of Yupukari, Karanamba, Massara, Kwatamang, Rewa, and Surama. The volunteer medical team provided outpatient clinical services, donated reading glasses, and undertook assessments and treated special-needs patients.
