Slingerz FC, led by a Devon Millington helmet-trick defeated Topp XX 4-1 as action in the Slingerz/National Association for Women Football (NAWF) Goal for Gold tournament continued on Friday.
Hosted at the Mackenzie Sports Club (MSC) ground in Linden, Millington would level proceedings for the West Demerara side in the 19th minute to cancel out Colwyn David’s fifth minute goal.
He would push Slingerz into the lead six minutes later through a right footed strike after being played on by a through pass from midfielder Vurlon Mills.
Millington would grab his first half hat-trick in the 39th minute with a right footed strike after once again being played through by a Mills forward pass.
The diminutive striker would complete his helmet-trick eight minutes before the conclusion of normal time with a toe punch in the 18th yard area to beat the onrushing Topp XX goalkeeper.
Camptown FC edged Riddim Squad 4-2 on penalty kicks in the opening game of the evening after normal and extra time found the scores locked at 1-1.
Shem Porter opened the scoring for the Campbellville side with a ninth minute strike. Sheldon Hope leveled the scores for the Mocha-based unit through a 54th minute conversion.
Action continues today at the Georgetown Football Club (GFC) ground, Bourda with two matches. In the opening game at 18:30hrs, the women’s division of the tourney commences with West Demerara facing Bartica.
In the feature game at 20:30hrs, national heavyweights Alpha ‘the Hammer’ United tackles Camptown FC in the first semi-final fixture.
