Everest Sports Club yesterday upset opponents Demerara Cricket Club (DCC) by 32 runs as the Georgetown Cricket Association (GCA)/ Banks DIH Malta Supreme Under-13 Cricket Tournament continued in Georgetown.
The competition has a unique set of rules. Teams are given 200 runs at the
start of the innings and are allowed to bat for 25 overs.
Batsmen are allowed to bat for only five overs and are not given out when dismissed but rather 10 runs are deducted from the team’s total with each dismissal.
At the end of five overs two new batters come to the crease while no-balls and wides are treated as two extras instead of one.
Three matches were contested yesterday.
Playing at the Everest ground, the home team won the toss and elected to bat, racking up 145 runs off their 25 overs, which, when added to their mandatory 200 runs, gave them a total of 345 runs.
There were seven dismissals which meant that 70 runs were deducted from the total, leaving them with 275 runs from their 25 overs.
Nicholas Sattaur (27) and Sachin Ramroop (17) were the notable run scorers. In reply, DCC added 163 to their 200 runs, taking their total to 363; however they recorded a staggering 12 dismissals which saw 120 runs deducted from the total leaving them with 243 runs, 32 short of their target.
Alphius Bookie (19), Juspice Jones (16), Osapha Greene (15) and Raul Douglas (15), all reached double figures but the consistent fall of wickets resulted in DCC’s demise. Sattaur, who grabbed two wickets, was the pick of the bowlers.
Over at the iconic Bourda ground, Georgetown Cricket Club (GCC) defeated Malteenoes Sports Club by six runs. Malteenoes added 182 to their 200 runs, giving them a total of 382. There were however, 14 dismissals which meant their eventual total was 242.
Richard Reyside (20) and Yannick Rameshwar (10) were the top scorers. GCC’s Yohance Angoy 4 for 17, was the chief destroyer. In their chase, GCC finished with 248 from their 25 overs.
They added 158 to their 200 mandatory runs and suffered 11 dismissals in the process.
Surprisingly, none of their batsmen scored more than six runs. The majority of their runs came from extras conceived by the opposition bowlers. Omar Harry and Shadrach Lewis both claimed two wickets for Malteenoes.
In the third game played at the Gandhi Youth Organisation ground, (GYO) 270-7 (Chandra Mohan 18, Pradesh Balkisha 12) (Joel Spooner 2-12 and Fazil Dyal 2-15), beat Transport Sports 243-9 (Adrian Hinds 19, Mark Baptiste 13), by 27 runs.
The action continues today with two games; GCC take DCC at Bourda, while Malteenoes play GYO at the GYO ground. Both matches are scheduled to bowl off at 9:30am, respectively.
