The Rotaract Club of Georgetown Central donated a number of school items to children from the Sophia community who were successful at the National Grade Six Assessment.
The presentation took place on Saturday during the Club’s regular statutory meeting which is held at the Red Cross Society back building, a press release said. It was spearheaded by the Club’s Community Service Committee which saw a selection of children from a reading group in Sophia which is conducted by the Rotary Club of Georgetown Central. The donation consisted of book bags, stationery, shoes, socks, uniforms and other gear.
The Club has been undertaking this project for the last four years with support from its members and sponsors in an effort to enhance basic education and the literacy skills of youth. It is in keeping with one of the six areas of focus of Rotary International, the parent organisation of Rotaract.
