A city stallholder yesterday admitted to the assault of another man but explained that he acted in defence of both his wife and himself after the complainant cursed her and chucked him.
“He come to me stall and pick up something and me wife tell he put them back down. He get vex and started cussing she. I tell he [that] he disrespecting me wife and he then start cussing me. He walked up to me and chucked me Your Worship. Then I pick up a piece of wire and lash he,” Andel Daniels, told Magistrate Faith McGusty at the Georgetown Magistrates’ Court, where he was charged with assault causing actual bodily harm.
It is the police’s case that on August 19, at King Street, Georgetown, Daniels assaulted Roy Williams.
But as a result of his explanation, Magistrate McGusty entered a not guilty plea for Daniels, 33, of Lot 19 Goed Intent, West Bank Demerara, and granted his release on $25,000 bail. He was ordered to return to court on September 3, when the case will be called again.
