National awardee Harold Davis who was the first Chairman of the Guyana Sugar Corporation (GuySuCo) was laid to rest following a funeral service yesterday at the Trinity Methodist Church on High and Leopold streets, Werk-en-Rust. A release from the Government Information Agency (GINA)
said that the packed congregation including President Donald Ramotar, a former GuySuCo board member, and Opposition Leader David Granger paid their final respects.
The 1980 Cacique Crown of Honour (CCH) recipient had been a teacher for 13 years before going to study at the University of Ohio in the United States for his Bachelor of Science in Administration and a Masters of Art in Sociology. On his return he started to work as a Personnel Officer at Skeldon estate. He had worked his way up to Personnel Director when the sugar company was nationalised in 1976 and he became the first local Chairman of the Corporation.
He also served in many positions including as Pro-Chancellor of the University of Guyana, past District Governor of Rotary International, Chairman of the Board of the Guyana and Trinidad Mutual Group of Insurance Companies (GTM) and Chairman of the Ptolemy Reid Rehabilitation Centre Management Committee.
