A man was yesterday remanded to prison after he admitted to stealing up to $2M in items from his employer, who he said underpaid him.
Frank Slowe, 30, was arraigned at the Georgetown Magistrates’ Court to answer to the charge which stated that between July 22 and July 23, at Georgetown, he allegedly broke and entered the home of Roxroy Jeffers and stole a flat screen television and a stereo set, among other items, which amounted to $2,110,000.
He was not required to plead to the indictable charge.
When asked his address by Magistrate Faith McGusty, Slowe initially said he lived at Lot 257 North Ruimveldt but later said he lived at 2057 North Ruimveldt.
The discrepancy caused prosecutor Seon Blackman to object to bail based on the fact that Slowe had given conflicting addresses. He also said that the offence was a serious one.
When given a chance to speak, Slowe said that he worked for Jeffers, who lives abroad and visits Guyana occasionally. He also said that while working for Jeffers, he felt that he was being underpaid and so decided to pay himself by stealing the items from his employer.
As a result, bail was refused and Slowe was remanded to prison until September 4.
