Athletes and fitness enthusiasts get ready; the fourth running of the Neal and Massy Guyana 10k Road Race and Fitness Walk will be staged on September 15 with lucrative cash prizes up for grabs.
During the formal launching of the annual event at the company’s Ruimveldt head office yesterday,
it was disclosed that in excess of $1M in cash and prizes will be on offer for the race which attracts the crème de la crème of Guyana’s middle and long distance runners.
The open winners (male and female) will pocket $75,000 each while the first, second, third and fourth runners up (male and female) will take home $60,000, $40,000,$15,000 and $10,000 each respectively.
In the junior category (16-19 years), the winners will receive $50,000 each while the second, third, fourth and fifth place finishers will collect $30,000,$20,000,$10,000 and $5,000 each.
For the Master’s (Women 35 years and older and Men 40-55 years) category, the top three finishers will collect $40, 000, $20,000 and $15,000 each.
Master’s men 56 years and above will receive hampers.
The 10k race commences at 6:00am at Diamond, East Bank Demerara and concludes in front of Neal and Massy office while the fitness walk starts at the Demerara Harbour Bridge 15 minutes later and ends at Neal and Massy.
At the launch, defending open champions, Cleveland Ford and Alika Morgan boasted that they are prepared to successfully defend their respective titles.
Morgan also encouraged other corporate entities to follow in the footsteps of Neal and Massy by sponsoring road races and fitness walks.
During the press briefing, CEO of Neal and Massy, Deo Persaud stated that his company is privileged to support the event on an annual basis.
Persaud also intimated that for the fifth edition, the race will run off in Berbice and Essequibo.
In brief remarks yesterday, AAG’s president, Aubrey Hutson lauded Neal and Massy for their sponsorship of the event and also encouraged the athletes to stop the clock faster than last year’s times.
