The government has approved measures to restrict the importation and use of styrofoam products, GINA said last evening.
It said that Head of the Presidential Secretariat, Dr. Roger Luncheon at his weekly post-Cabinet press briefing at the Office of the President yesterday stressed that styrofoam has played a huge role in the build-up of solid waste.
GINA said that among the measures to be implemented are the imposition of taxes and duties to make the importation and use of styrofoam less attractive for the food industry in particular. It said that on the other hand, importers and users of alternatives to styrofoam will be offered other incentives.
GINA said that the Natural Resources Ministry will be explicating these measures.
