Action in the Slingerz/National Association for Women Football (NAWF) Goal for Gold tournament continues today at the Georgetown Football Club (GFC) ground in Bourda with the respective third place playoffs.
Beaten semifinalists BK Western Tigers and Camptown FC will do battle in the feature game of the evening at 8:30 pm in what promises to be an open encounter.
Defeated in their semifinal matchup 3-2 by Slingerz FC, Western Tigers marshalled by the trio of Phillip Rowley, Jerome Richardson and Hubert Pedro will try to end the tournament on a relatively high note when the opening whistle sounds.
Coach of the West Ruimveldt side Calvin ‘Flu man’ Allen in an invited comment stated, “If we come out with the same intensity and fight that we showed against Slingerz we will do well in the game. We got one game left and will throw out everything at them and try to be successful.”
Campbellville-based side Camptown FC will be playing for pride following their 3-0 defeat at the hands of Alpha United and will look to the duo of Devon Forde and Jahall Greaves to ensure success.
In the earlier matchup at 6:30 pm, the Berbice women will lock horns with their West Demerara counterparts in the third place playoff of the women’s section.
Both sides will be looking to end the tournament with a victory following their respective semifinal defeats. Berbice went down to Georgetown by a 9-0 score line while West Demerara lost to Bartica 4-0.
Launched under the Stag brand, the tournament which commenced on Saturday August 10 features 16 male teams and 6 female sides competing within a grand knockout simultaneous tourney.
The winners of the male segment of the event will receive $2,000,000 and a trophy while second, third and fourth place finishers will earn $1,000,000, $500,000 and $300,000 and a trophy respectively.
