Alpha United led by a Marvin Joseph helmet trick thrashed Black Pearl 6-0 as action in the inaugural Georgetown Football Association (GFA) Players Cup recommenced on Thursday at the GFC ground, Bourda.
Joseph would open the scoring in the eighth minute, stabbing home his right-footed effort inside the six-yard area from a left-sided cross. He would double Alpha’s lead seven minutes later through a powerful left- footed volley after latching onto a poorly defended left side cross.
His hat trick would follow in the 26th minute from a powerful right- footed strike from 22 yards out that nestled into the top left hand corner. Joseph completed his tally for the evening one minute later from a right-footed effort that rolled slowly over the goal line.
Second half goals by William Europe and Bevon Mosley in the 53rd and 65th minutes respectively completed the hammering.
In the opening game, Northern Rangers through hat tricks by Wendell St. Hill in the seventh, 19th and 37th minutes and Deron Bowen in the 26th, 30th and 60th minutes crushed Beacons FC 8-2.
Gavin Bobb and Michael Burnett completed the score line with strikes in the 66th and 90th minutes respectively.
On target in a losing effort were Desmond Gotham and Josiah Charles in the fifth and 40th minutes correspondingly.
Action continues at the same venue today with two slated fixtures. In the opening game at 18:30hrs, Riddim Squad will lock horns with Flamingo FC while in the feature contest at 20:30hrs, Fruta Conquerors FC will oppose the Guyana Defence Force (GDF).
